What
do I need?
A web brochure, one or two pages, or a web presence, three to five pages,
(www.gbs-gpc.com)
may be all you need in the early stages of building a business and then
added to as the business grows.
A web site (www.midtownrotary.org)
can be a larger on going project or it can be designed, built, published
and never changed again. It all depends on you, your business and your
budget. My advice, shop around. Find a web designer that listens to you,
what you envision and will CO-create your site with you and your budget.
It is your business image so know you will need to be involved for the
site to evolve and represent you!
There's
a difference between web site design and a professional web site design.
Just an hour of "surfing" the web will prove this point!
Anyone, this means you, can design a web site for free or can buy
an inexpensive program to lay out pages, add buttons, backgrounds, images,
music, photographs, animation-what ever you want it is everywhere for
free. If you can't afford a web site-explore this option. Yes, anyone
can build a web site-but can you design a web site?
Inspiration
comes from looking at other web sites. Study other web sites that are
you find appealing and why. Study web sites that aren't interesting to
you and make a note of why. A few of my favorites sites are:
The
world wide web is your greatest resource for
great ideas, art work, design, images, sound and beautiful color. If you
see a site you like, contact the web designer to help you design a great
site.Remember copyright laws-Don't Steal the Art Work! The web is for
global communication and a visual presentation is important. The more
information you present visually the more your site will be communicating
across invisible boundaries-in all languages.
Yes, pictures are worth 1000 words in any language but.............
who is writing the content, copy, information about you or your business?
Content and information architecture (IA) on your site is the next
most important consideration. A visually appealing site may loose the
visitor with poorly written, too little or too much content. Did you know
most people skim the web pages? To be honest this page is getting to wordy!
Writing copy for a web site is different than for printed material. While
I design the pages artistically, begin to write or hire someone to write
your content. Remember to make it concise, to the point and the important
information read gathered with a skim of the page. Get to the point-sell
yourself-sell your product or sell your service even you have to hire
a site editor or writer!
How
MUCH?
As much as your budget allows. Start small and grow your web site with
your business. Or maybe your site is old and needs a "face lift".
Ever web site is differnet. Consultation is free. 615.315.0234.
